Life is not a Practice

Alison and I are spending my birthday weekend in Flumserberg in Switzerland. Yesterday we drove here stpping off for lunch in Vaduz (the capital of Liechtenstein).



Today we caught the cable cars up to the Prodkamm at 1939m and then walked along the ridge to the Maschgenlücke where we stopped for a coffee. Alison also bought some local cheese.

From the hut we walked up to the summit of the 2074 meter high Ziger where the view was there one minute and gone the next as the clouds passed by. We then continued on up to the summit of the 2222 meter high Leist.



From here we had amazing views down on to the Walensee and in to the surrounding mountains. The sun was shining and we ate some of Alison's cheese.

We then returned to the Maschgenkamm for coffee, cake and enjoying the views and then caught the cable car down to Tannenboden. There we saw the "Floomzer" sommer bobsleigh so caught another lift back up to try that.

Then it was just a gentle walk back to the apartment in Tannenheim and a swim in the pool next door.

In the evening we went to Rappenswill for dinner by the lake.

Dorothee was visiting from Milan so Heidi, Hermann, Alison and I took her to the Roßbergalpe for lunch.

Walked with Alison and Max up to the Riedberger Horn and then on to the Grauer Stein.
Actually we did a little off roading part of the way as we were checking the location for a new mast and therefore "official".



Some of the way the snow was above our knees.

Walked up to the Alm for lunch with Mona and Vinzenz.

Max suggested that we walk to the top of the Zugspitz and Alison and I had time today so the three of us climbed from Ehrwald to the summit.



It took us six hours from bottom to top with the second three hours being a steep rock climb to the summit ridge.



We caught the cable car back down which took about 10 minutes.

The motivated fit people went nordic walking to Kögelhof. I walked over there and enjoyed an hour of peace in the Ällgäu countryside. Passed the Kögelweiher at sunset.

An overcast Sunday and Max suggested walking to the top of the 1738 meter high Grünten so that he could "photograph the view".

The following picture is the view.


But it was fun anyway. Alison Max and I walked up the 700 meters from the car park and stopped on the way down at the Grüntenhütte for a drink.

Hard afternoon at work. Walked up the Riedbergerhorn to check it out as a relay site for a project we are working on. The original "hard day in the office".

Allgäu has turned yellow.
