110405 Grüntensee

First "Tuesday Bike Ride" of the season. Five of us out with racing bikes. Max's first ever racing bike trip and no accidents!

110403 Ellegg

Sunday morning and another day of sunshine. Max suggested a ride to the top of the Ellegg which sounded like a challenge so early in the year but fun.
Near the top we went off on an "exploration" of untried tracks which opened on to some amazing views.
Came home via the Mühlbach and then picked Rhiannon up from Chris's. Few kilometers but lots of fun.

110402 Grüntensee

Spent the day in the garden - we even had the professionals in to get the hedge cut at the top of the garden.
Afterwards I went for a bike ride but by the time I got to Wertach I had really done enough for one day. Only managed 17 kms at a 22.3km/h average.

The clocks have been changed to summer time so it is still light after work. I got a bit carried away on my race bike. 45kms with a moving average of 24.2km/h. Not bad for the start of the season.

A Friday afternoon. Finished work and unblocked the chimney. The sun was still shining so I rode towards Wald, across the Wertach river, up in to Görisried and then home.
30km with a moving average of 19.5km/h. The wind was against me all the way home which didn't help the moving average :-)

110312 Alpspitz skiing

Alison, Max and I out for two hours skiing. Fantastic snow perfectly prepared, very few people and fantastic weather.
With all the tourists gone we could ski as fast as we wanted with the only danger being that of hitting each other.

+10°C and sunshine so I was off on my race bike. Headed to Hopferau but the road was closed because of a carnival procession. Took the diversion and wandered through the countryside between the slowly melting snow and green patches.

Carnival Sunday. In the afternoon we were off to a carnival parade but this morning I was skiing in Nesselwang. Few people and perfect snow. A dream combination.

This morning we were skiing and this afternoon the weather was just too nice to stay inside so I went for a race bike "training run" round the Grünntensee.
The roads are snow free but all around on the mountains there is snow enough.

The weather forecast said "superb weather" and it was right. Max, Daniel and I all went across to Austria for some "serious skiing". Frozen, steep, north facing slopes. By lunch time I was happy to get back in the car even with the boys waiting for me at the bottom of every run.

Middle of winter but at least 10°C. Alison was out teaching skiing and Georg across the road had just got back from ski touring as I and Heidi set off for and "on road" tour through the winter scenery.

110130 Above the clouds

Daniel was off skiing with his friends so I gave him a lift and then stayed at the slopes to ski myself. Nesselwang was bathed in sunshine but the rest of Germany was under the clouds.
Sunshine, top snow and relatively few skiers on the top slope. :-)

110120 Memories of Dubai

A friend is on his way to India overland and has just reached Dubai.
Reminded me of snowboarding there in 2006.
This "ski hall" is in the middle of the desert. Outside is 40°C and inside you can snow board. Crazy place.

A family walk. What else can you do when the snow is melting so fast that you can watch it happen.
Just across the field we found a place where all the rain had pushed the snow off the slope and left the remains looking like the end of a glacier
Down in to the Wertach valley and then we explored a new path home. One and a half hours of sunshine and lovely scenery.
