171221 La Graciosa.

Today is the winter solstice but I was out cycling in shorts and a T-shirt. You just need to be far enough south. Yesterday we arrived by sailing boat at the Island of La Graciosa ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Graciosa,_Canary_Islands ) and today Shane and I hired some bikes and went for a ride round the island and a walk up the dormant volcano of Montana Bermeja.

171218 Agadir to Caleta del Sabo

After nine days of waiting, the winds and the swell in the Atlantic finally reduced and we crossed over from Morocco to the island of La Graciosa in two days. Debbie was ill so it was just Shane and I doing watch alternately. Tiring but fun.

The first stage in a sailing trip to the Canary Islands. The trip across the Straits of Gibraltar was like being in a washing machine. The sail down the African coast a little more relaxed. 100 hours in total.

This evening we spent three hours on our spinning bikes at the fitness studio in Seeg. Three different instructors each for one hour. Schnapps and chocolate during the event and pasta and beer afterwards. Not sure that the net result was a calorie loss :-)

It was a starry Thursday evening. Inge suggested we walk up the mountain to Sportheim Böck and enjoy flasks of mulled wine and biscuits at the top. It was fun but I think we ate and drank more calories than we burned off.

I thought summer had finished but outside is beautiful. Yesterday Jon finished rebuilding my MTB - changing to a folding frame (see https://buruwang.org/2017/10/14/folding-mountainbike-paratrooper/ ) - so today was the perfect day to test it.
It is ten weeks since the last time I was on my MTB and todays trip in no way compared with the 2000 meters of climbing through the Uina Valley (https://neill.blogger.de/stories/2652936/ ) but it reminded me why I love mountain biking. You can go anywhere. You are unstoppable :-)

It is dark again in the evenings so it is time for spinning. First session was yesterday and I could still walk today so I went again.
I achieve an average of about 130W over the whole hour. Hopefully that will improve over the winter.
I started spinning just as a "winter training" for biking but now I enjoy it just as a sport for its own sake. Good music, good trainers and a nice warm shower afterwards. Then I sleep no problem :-)

My shoulder didn't hurt at all after Saturdays bike ride so I went out and did it again this evening. I was even slower this time but still managed above 20km/h.

170923 back on the bike

They (the doctors and therapist) told me that after six weeks my shoulder would be fully healed and I could start "training it up". So (six weeks and one day after the operation) I was just out for a roadbike ride. Very slowly and very gently and not too far but none the less a bike ride.
As the picture shows autumn is happening.
Life is getting better every day.

170917 "weight lifting"

My shoulder OP is now five weeks ago so I am allowed to start "training". After four weeks I was using a half filled bottle of water (500g) and pulling it in various directions via a rope over the door handle. Now I have moved up to a whole 1000g!
I bet all the ladies in the fitness studio would be very impressed by this.

Got the hang of this "hiking" thing. Just walk with interesting people and then you don't notice how boring it is :-)
