Renate had a fantastic idea. We could take the touring skis and walk up to the Sunnalm. I was excited by the idea but skeptical about the Alm as we had such bad service last time.
But I was worrying for nothing. Weather, snow, colleagues and WAITRESS were all perfect. A fantastic day (which I almost missed by oversleeping).

The plan was to use the touring skis to walk up to the Wannenkopf for a drink. But after about 10 minutes, I slipped on the ice and while sliding the binding broke off my ski. The result was that I fell over and slid head first back down the slope.
Probably the shortest ski tour I ever did.
A few days later I received brand new bindings, mounted on my skis and all for free. Thank you Fischer and Sporthaus Baronsee!

The snow has either melted or been washed away. In the morning Gertrud asked if I wanted to go for a walk so we walked to Reichenbach for a coffee. It was so sunny and warm that I was motivated to take my MTB out for a run. Not so far and few hills but still the first ride of 2018.

I started the new year with a whoile series of business meetings in and around the beautiful city of Varaždin in Croatia. On the flight to Zagreb there were 26 passengers on board and everyone got three seats.
The city is stunning, the people are efficient and friendly and I can't wait to return in summer.

Another sunny day. Another ski tour :-) As the terrace at Sportheim Böck was so full yesterday, I aimed for an Alp twenty meters higher up the mountain. Much nicer. Hardly any people. Amazing the difference it makes when you have to bring your own food and drink :-)

Christmas Day, sunshine and snow. So once again I walked up to Sportheim Böck and enjoyed a Capuccino. I took my time but was "rewarded" with a 114bpm average pulse :-)

First trip out with the touring skis today. Three days ago I was climbing a volcano in shorts and a T-shirt and today I walked with skis up the local mountain. It is a tough life - but some one has to do it.

171221 La Graciosa.

Today is the winter solstice but I was out cycling in shorts and a T-shirt. You just need to be far enough south. Yesterday we arrived by sailing boat at the Island of La Graciosa ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Graciosa,_Canary_Islands ) and today Shane and I hired some bikes and went for a ride round the island and a walk up the dormant volcano of Montana Bermeja.

After nine days of waiting, the winds and the swell in the Atlantic finally reduced and we crossed over from Morocco to the island of La Graciosa in two days. Debbie was ill so it was just Shane and I doing watch alternately. Tiring but fun.

The first stage in a sailing trip to the Canary Islands. The trip across the Straits of Gibraltar was like being in a washing machine. The sail down the African coast a little more relaxed. 100 hours in total.

This evening we spent three hours on our spinning bikes at the fitness studio in Seeg. Three different instructors each for one hour. Schnapps and chocolate during the event and pasta and beer afterwards. Not sure that the net result was a calorie loss :-)

It was a starry Thursday evening. Inge suggested we walk up the mountain to Sportheim Böck and enjoy flasks of mulled wine and biscuits at the top. It was fun but I think we ate and drank more calories than we burned off.

I thought summer had finished but outside is beautiful. Yesterday Jon finished rebuilding my MTB - changing to a folding frame (see https://buruwang.org/2017/10/14/folding-mountainbike-paratrooper/ ) - so today was the perfect day to test it.
It is ten weeks since the last time I was on my MTB and todays trip in no way compared with the 2000 meters of climbing through the Uina Valley (https://neill.blogger.de/stories/2652936/ ) but it reminded me why I love mountain biking. You can go anywhere. You are unstoppable :-)
