171202 Nikolaus Spinning
This evening we spent three hours on our spinning bikes at the fitness studio in Seeg. Three different instructors each for one hour. Schnapps and chocolate during the event and pasta and beer afterwards. Not sure that the net result was a calorie loss :-)

171010 Spinning
It is dark again in the evenings so it is time for spinning. First session was yesterday and I could still walk today so I went again.

I achieve an average of about 130W over the whole hour. Hopefully that will improve over the winter.



I started spinning just as a "winter training" for biking but now I enjoy it just as a sport for its own sake. Good music, good trainers and a nice warm shower afterwards. Then I sleep no problem :-)

151015 FTW Test
It is that time of year again. Beginning of the Spinning season and time to measure my fitness so that I know what to give in as value on the training bikes.

Same procedure as last year (https://neill.blogger.de/stories/2441600/) but this year Heidi and I did it together.



I achieved a slightly better time than last year. 267!

151005 Spinning
Winter is just round the corner so today I was in Nesselwang Fitness Studio for my first spinning of the season. Tomorrow we are going to the Seeg studio.

[Next day] I overdid it yesterday. Could hardly reach my feet to put my socks on this morning :-)

[2 days later] by the evening I was feeling OK and did another hours spinning with no obvious ill effects.

150106 Five hours of spinning
Today is a holiday here in Germany so we made good use of it to have a five hour spinning marathon. You could register for single hours or for the complete event - so I did the latter.



At the facebook page of the fitness club ( https://de-de.facebook.com/FitnessNesselwang ) you can see lots of photos of us cycling and get the impression that we spent five hours just cycling. As these pictures show, we did cycle but managed a few bites to eat and drinks to keep us motivated.



My verdict. An absolutely fantastic event with great music and motivated trainers.

141206 St. Nicholas Spinning
Today in the fitness studio in Seeg was "St. Nicholas Spinning". From two in the afternoon until seven in the evening we enjoyed five hours of spinning with great music and five fifferent instructors. Great fun.



Afterwards we spent another two hours eating and drinking. A great idea from the fitness studio and a fun way to spend a grey rainy afternoon.

141009 FTW Test
I wrote in my last post that the new indoor cycling bikes at the fitness studio seem to want less from me in a training session than my sports watch suggests I should be doing. I talked about this with the trainers and they suggested an FTW Test to calibrate the bike to me (or the other way round).



Today we did the test. Four minutes producing 75 Watts of power followed by four at 100 , four at 125 and so on until you can not do any more. You have to remain sitting and there is no motivating music. I managed 40 minutes and reached a power of 275 Watt before giving up.

The bike then told me that in future I need to give in an FTW value of 253 at the start of each session. Until now it has been suggesting 200 based on age, weight and six hours training a week.

Who would have thought that getting fit could be so technical.

And who would have thought that you would have to cycle so hard just to run two old 100 Watt bulbs.

Edit 12.10.14: I could still feel the effects of this test two days later.

141006 Spinning
Today I was in Nesselwang spinning again. The bikes are very high tech - http://m.indoorcycling-shop.com/item/49432d544b494337422d3031 - but this evening the colors kept me in a zone below where my personal training program says I should be. If I carry on training at this level, then after 5 hours I will have zones 1 and 2 finished but no training in zone 3 at all.

Apparently we can correct for my real level of fitness by doing a test. We are going to do it on Thursday. I am excited to see what the test results are.
